Flip Flop Sandals - Airport Friendly Footwear
Flip flop sandals have been a popular footwear choices since their introduction to the United States in the 1950's by New Zealand where they are called Jandals (Japanese Sandals). The term "Flip Flop" comes from the name these types of shoes usually make when worn, as they tend to slap the feet as the wearer walks.
Although normally only associated with beach or swimming pool, flip-flops are often the casual footwear of choice for many people who live in warmer climates. Addtionally, unlike flat sandals which usually have a metal bar inserted in the sole area for added durability, flip flop sandals generally have no metal in their soles and generally are very airport friendly as they don't normally set off the detectors. If you're traveling in the warmer months and you don't like to untie your footwear at the gate checkpoints, put an all rubber pair of flip flop sandals on your feet!
For people that love to go barefooted but realize it isn't practical to attempt to frequent their favorite restraurants and stores with bare feet, flip flops are a boon. In addition, flip flop sandals are now accepted in most venues as the casual footwear of choice and look equally good when paired with a pair of summer casual shorts or a short, summer dress.
A great pair of flip flops that are airport friendly as well as very comfortable are made by Earthshoe, called the
Miami. This lightweight flip flop has an ergonomic footbed and will conform to the wearer's foot. The strap is made of lightweight nylon giving the wearer a very comfortable flip flop.
